Upcoming Field Day for All Students Flyer

Description

SCENARIO

You are a member of a committee at your child’s school. The committee has been assigned the task to design a flyer for the students to take home to their parents. The purpose of the flyer is to notify parents about the upcoming Field Day for all students. They have specified that it can only be one-page in length, and they have encouraged creativity to catch the eyes of the parents.

Several parents wish to participate, so the leader of the committee creates a fun flyer competition. She asks that each person creates his/her own flyer and create a screen share to persuade the committee to choose your flyer. The screen share should visually show the flyer and include a verbal explanation regarding why your flyer will best attract the eyes of the parents.

Since you are extremely creative, you know that in order to capture the parents’ attention and win this competition, you will need to use color, lines, balance, and contrast visual elements.

In your video presentation, be sure to defend your visual choices to the other parents and members of the committee. You know that if you clearly explain why you chose each of these visual elements and how it best attracts the eyes of the parents, you could win this fun competition!

Your presentation should be a maximum of 5 minutes.

  • Quoting your etextbook in the video:
It is important that you clearly identify which words are yours, and which words/ideas come from a source (article, book, person, etc.). In your video, it is important to say the name of your source author out loud to acknowledge that you have supporting evidence from an expert in the field.
——— For example, in your video you can say something like, “Robin Landa (*or experts name here*), a communication expert, states ***say the quote from our etextbook (or other source) here*** “. Etextbook found under each Module; search key words “color”, “lines”, “contrast”, and “balance” for quotes about this Deliverable.
  • ******** Scripting ideas to set up what to say in your Del 1 Field Day Flyer video –> DO NOT turn these in but use as resource:
    I.  Introduce yourself in the scenario (in Del 1 you are a parent presenting to the elementary school committee– goal = get them to choose your flyer. This will change with each Deliverable; use this as an example for developing your own ideas for each of the different Deliverable requirements)
Stay in the Deliverable scenario character to introduce yourself and your purpose
Introduce your purpose much like writing a thesis statement: example: “My name is April Ray. I am a parent at Washington Elementary and I have created this flyer for Field Day and this video is to show you why my flyer is the best choice to strategically reach our parents and the families of the children to get them to attend Field Day”
II. Cover the first point in the Instructions (in Del 1 it is the strategic use of color and its effects on viewers; why is this good for the elementary school to use in the flyer? This will change with each Deliverable; use this as an example for developing your own ideas for each of the different Deliverable requirements)
Analyze the colors you chose to use in your flyer: why they are effective in reaching parent/family viewers, how they effect these viewers, why this is the best choice for the committee
Include a quote from the etextbook reading on color to support your analysis point, or a quotefrom another academic source
Stay in scenario character and finish your analysis of color by stating why the committee should consider your flyer with its strategic use of color
III. Cover the second point in the Instructions (in Del 1 it is the strategic use of lines and its effects on viewers; why is this good for the elementary school to use in the flyer? This will change with each Deliverable; use this as an example for developing your own ideas for each of the different Deliverable requirements)
Analyze the lines you chose to use in your flyer: why they are effective in reaching parent/family viewers, how they effect these viewers, why this is the best choice for the committee
Include a quote from the etextbook reading on color to support your analysis point, or a quote from another academic source
Stay in scenario character and finish your analysis of lines by stating why the committee should consider your flyer with its strategic use of lines
IV. Cover the third point in the Instructions (in Del 1 it is the strategic use of balance and its effects on viewers; why is this good for the elementary school to use in the flyer? This will change with each Deliverable; use this as an example for developing your own ideas for each of the different Deliverable requirements)
Analyze the balance you chose to use in your flyer: why it is effective in reaching parent/family viewers, how they effect these viewers, why this is the best choice for the committee
Include a quote from the etextbook reading on balance to support your analysis point, or a quote from another academic source
Stay in scenario character and finish your analysis of balance by stating why the committeeshould consider your flyer with its strategic use of balance
    V. Cover the fourth point in the Instructions (in Del 1 it is the strategic use of contrast and its effects on viewers; why is this good for the elementary school to use in the flyer? This will change with each Deliverable; use this as an example for developing your own ideas for each of the different Deliverable requirements)
Analyze the contrast you chose to use in your flyer: why it is effective in reaching parent/family viewers, how they effect these viewers, why this is the best choice for the committee
Include a quote from the etextbook reading on contrast to support your analysis point, or a quote from another academic source
Stay in scenario character and finish your analysis of contrast by stating why the committee should consider your flyer with its strategic use of contrast
VI. Conclude the video analysis by reviewing the importance of using these specific visual elements in the Deliverable Instructions (for Del 1 it was color, lines, balance, and contrast) and review how important it is in visual communication for this committee or the people in your scenario
